No Hard feelings

Oh how the mighty have fallen. Well not so mighty, Oscar winners at least. In 2013, Jennifer Lawrence was collecting  an Oscar. 2024 she is collecting, well I'm not sure what she's collecting but it ain't no Oscar. Not for ‘No hard feelings’ anyway. At least she got a pay cheque.

She seems to have suffered the Halle Berry effect. For some reason Hollywood has fallen out of love with the once golden girl.

It's a shame that instead of doing this terrible, terrible “comedy” she didn't turn to some good television drama alà Reece Witherspoon, and Nicole Kidman. Both Oscar winners, both making amazing television. Unfortunately we get No hard feelings.I apologise for what comes next.

Jennifer plays Maddie, a down and out woman, who is scraping a living trying to keep the house her mother left her. There is nothing likable about Maddie, she's not funny , she's not nice. She's rude to her friends, and rude to anyone trying to help her. I hope Jennifer didn't take the role because she felt a connection to the character.

Maddie loses her car, because she hasn't kept up with the payments. Now there are several hundred ways Maddie could have worked to find money for a new car, but Maddie decides the best and only course of action is to answer an ad in the newspaper. The advert requires a ‘young’ girl to become the girlfriend of a couple's son. The couple are worried that their son 19 is too socially awkward, always stuck in his bedroom etc etc. They interviewed Maddie, promising her that she will get their Buick so as he can carry on with her job, and earn money to save her house. She doesn't even get the car straight away.

What follows is slapstick comedy of the bottom of the barrel kind.

The movie continues with Maddie trying to seduce Percy ( the son in question), and finally ends.

Things do happen in the middle but they are really not worth mentioning. This is not a good movie, nothing can save it. No a single scene is funny.Trust me don't put yourself through it.

I hope Jennifer Lawrence chooses a better movie next time and manages to pay off whatever she needed to pay off with the cheque from this one.
