The Beekeeper

Jason Statham is 56 years old, he has a very black beard. Throughout most of the movie he wears a very big jacket and a one size too big cap. This is one of the only Jason Statham movies that I have watched where he isn’t partnered up with another actor, but you expect a certain thing when watching a Jason Statham movie and this movie doesn’t disappoint.

Sometimes you just want to watch a movie where a guy goes around beating people up, blowing things up and breaking through walls. This is one of those movies. There is a lot of over the top violence, a lot of fingers being chopped off, and a crazy woman who dies as quickly as she appeared.

The mother from The Cosby show is in it, and she looks as she did in the Cosby show but with grey hair. For some reason Jason Statham has been using her barn to raise his bees. He is apparently retired from an organisation called the Beekeepers, but apparently  Jason Statham took the name to heart and became an actual beekeeper. The movies seem to be setting up a franchise, in the form of John Wick I assume, with Jason Statham the John Wick character.

Mrs Cosby has apparently been looking after Jason Statham  (J.S) and this means a lot to him. They plan to have tea, and J.S plans to bring honey. Mrs Cosby is on her laptop, and gets a pop up message saying her computer has been infected. Now apparently Mrs. Cosby is clueless about computers and how they work, but someone thought it was a good idea to put her in charge of a $2 million charity. She gives over all control to the bad guys who are operating in some disco call centre.

By the time J.S returns with his honey, it’s apparent Mrs. Cosby has killed herself because she has lost all of the money. Whilst going to investigate, he is arrested by Mrs Cosby's daughter, who assumes it was J.S that killed her. J.S is eventually released, and Mrs Cosby's daughter, who is one step behind everybody, but always has a cup of coffee in her hand, sits and has a chat. She tells J.S how she is a bad daughter and how she is going to get the people. who did this to her mother. She is not going to do anything.

J.S manages to find the disco call centre, and does what J.S does. He manages to take down the whole call centre. We do find that there are apparently several of these call-centres which J.S will have to take down, but also that a rich annoying kid is in charge of this whole organisation which is worth millions. He is being protected by Jeremy Irons of all people. Oh Minnie Driver also makes an appearance, for some reason.

On his way to take down the organisation, a bat-shit crazy current Beekeeper with blue hair and one brain cell tries to take J.S down. She thinks it a good idea to fire a helicopter gunship machine gun at a petrol station, but luckily for J.S everything only explodes when he is leaving. Taking crazy ladies finger with him

Mrs Cosby’s daughter turns up an hour later, having tried very hard to solve the case sitting in her office playing catch with her hispanic partner. Surprisingly, this chap doesn’t die even though we know he has a wife and young child.

J.S chops off a few more fingers and takes down an army or two before we get to the final part. Annoying rich kid was the President's son, and she was elected using the ill gotten gains of the disco-call centres, without her knowledge apparently. The secret service leaves the President by herself as you do,  to get themselves shot and beaten by J.S. A bunch of South African mercenaries also lose their lives.

We have the final big fight between J.S and the big bad South African guy. This fight is pretty brutal and has a raw feeling about it, but J.S prevails in the end because he has to be in part two. Jeremy Irons keeps his fingers but they get broken. The President is upset that J.S shoots her son in the head, despite him threatening to shoot her in the head a minute ago. Mrs Cosby's daughter lets J.S escape into the sea as the remaining secret service guys pretend to look for him.

This is a good movie which does what it needs to do, and so does Jason Statham.
